Simple File Validator for Windows 32-bit
Simple File Validator, better known as WIN-SFV or just SFV, is a handy free utility that will let you do a CRC check on any file (or files) provided you have a known good copy elsewhere or an SFV table created from a known good copy. Two common uses are checking the contents of a new floppy disk or CD against the original data on your hard drive, and checking for corruption in files you've just downloaded. The simple Windows interface is self-explanatory, but here's the quick version of the instructions:
- If you've already got an SFV table and want to validate the file(s) it came with, put the file(s) and the SFV file in the same directory, run WIN-SFV, select that directory, click Next, select Verify Files, and click Next again. You can select and unselect individual files, if neccessary, using the window on the right.
- If you want to create an SFV table for a file or set of files you plan to copy or upload, run WIN-SFV, select the directory containing the file(s), click Next, select Create Table, select the file(s) from the window on the right, and click Next again.
- Some other SFV programs create files with headers WIN-SFV does not recognize. If WIN-SFV does not recognize an SFV file you've downloaded, copy the first two lines of a good SFV file and paste them at the top of the bad SFV file. If you don't have a good SFV file around, just make one!
